You know what's weird? Putting conditioner on your hair is like an accepted thing, but doing the same for your skin... is not.
I'm talking about body washes, and I'm talking about the creamier variety, that can give your skin an extra layer of soothing moisture in addition to whatever body lotion/cream/oil you put on after that. (Or, maybe even replace it altogether on those days when you're short on time.)
I'm late to the party, but I recently started using Aveeno's Eczema Care Body Wash, even though my body does not, in fact, have eczema. I just thought its description—that it's "formulated to gently cleanse without damaging the skin's barrier"—sounded perfect for winter.
And it is.
The texture is what I'd describe as a thick cream-gel, so it's more nourishing than your typical shower gel, but not at all slimy or greasy. It produces a low lather, rinses away clean, and once you get out of the shower, you really don't feel any "slip" on your skin at all—it just feels soft.
The oat-based formula also helps calm minor skin itching, and it doesn't have any fragrance to irritate sensitive skin, which I love. Like derms always say, bland moisturizers are best.
Here's the ingredients list:
Medicinal ingredients: Collodial Oatmeal 2.0%. Non-medicinal ingredients: Avena Sativa (oat) Kernel Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ceramide 3, Citric Acid, Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Guar) Gum, Glycerin, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Laureth-2, Panthenol, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Sodium Trideceth Sulfate, Water.
Not bad, right? Collodial oatmeal is Aveeno's signature ingredient that helps restore the skin's moisture barrier, and 2 percent of it is a lot.
I can't comment on the effectiveness for actual eczema conditions, but the product IS endorsed by the Eczema Society of Canada, right there on the label. I say, no matter what your skin type, it's a nice way to give your bod some wintertime TLC (on the cheap!).
