Olivia Munn is the new Olivia Wilde, at least when it comes to taking makeup risks. Just like my original Olivia beauty crush (Wilde), my new one (Munn) knows how to push the boundaries just enough—but always keeping her look totally fresh and pretty.
Y'all may recall the last time I went gaga over a Munn red carpet look, her purple mascara at the premiere of 'Mortdecai'. Now, she's busting out the bright colour once again, but in a way that's a little less obvious.
Here's her head-to-toe at a recent event for Samsung:
I love everything that's going on here—the mixed prints, the sleek hair, the jacket thrown over the shoulders.
Here's the surprise when you get closer:
Emerald green eyeliner, and just a hint of it! It's a thin line drawn across her upper lash lines, but not flicked out or exaggerated in any way—so the effect is subtle. In fact, with her hooded eye shape, you only see the colour at the outer edges, or if she lowers her gaze.
This is a fantastic way to introduce bright colour into your makeup without it taking over your entire look (say, if you want to wear green eyeliner to the office without every other person commenting on it). The baby flashes of green are just enough to add an interesting element to the makeup, without distracting.
No word on the exact shade Olivia's makeup artist, Shane Paish, used to get the look, but I would go for a waterproof or smudge-proof pencil to ensure the green doesn't end up all over your lids. A few shades to try:
Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kôhl Liner in Cabana. I have this in black, and it's my go-to waterproof liner at the moment. Stays put and you can't beat the built-in sharpener (in the cap)!
ArtDeco Soft Eye Liner in Jade. This is a new-ish German brand at Shoppers and I'm really impressed by their liners' staying power, and the unconventional colours.
Yves Saint Laurent Crayon Yeux Haute Tenue Long-Lasting Eye Pencil in 9 Turquoise. They might discontinue these soon given there's just this shade available on Sephora, but this is a really good eyeliner! One of the first long-wearing ones I fell in love with.
Dolce & Gabbana The Eyeliner Crayon Intense in Emerald 7. So luxe, and has flecks of gold for an extra somethin' somethin'.
Make sure to pair the green with lots of black mascara, and perhaps even black liner in the upper waterlines to make sure the eyes still pop.
Not sure she needed quite so much blush, but overall I'm really digging this departure from the usual, predictable black. What a fun way to welcome spring, right?
