While some celebs were at the White House last weekend, the young Hollywood set were walking the red carpet at the Radio Disney Music Awards in Los Angeles.
Here are all the night's beauty looks:
I already know what you want to ask me. That lip colour Peyton's got on. What IS it?!?! Sadly I don't know, but I'm swooning hard. It's a fuchsia, but a warm, reddish fuchsia, which you don't see very often. Candidates include NARS Luxembourg, Urban Decay Catfight or MAC Full Fuchsia. Actually, I'm obsessed with this entire look—not just the lip—and I think it will go down as one of 2015's best. Skin is matte but luminous (but of course, she's only 17), brows are on point, eye makeup is restrained and the hairstyle is simple but chic. Her hair colour is just right, too; it picks up on the tones in her eyes perfectly.
Zendaya doesn't seem to wear the same hairstyle more than once; this, alas, is one of my least favourites. While I fully support natural hair textures and love seeing more curly styles on the red carpet (like Adriana Lima's the other day), this just seems like heavy hair curtains. What's interesting is that she's been toning down her makeup a lot, compared to the early days. Can't complain about the foundation texture or the browny nude lips/shadow. But I do detect some false lower lashes and those just creep me out. Maybe because I'm reminded of Giuliana Rancic that one time. All her makeup is by Pacifica.
Carly Rae Jepsen
It's been a while since we've seen Carly—not since I got to meet her in 2013! Gotta say, I preferred the darker, longer auburn to this full-on red colour and bob. Oh well, a girl needs to experiment. Her makeup looks okay; bit dry under the eyes and blotchy on the lips. And those lashes... I dunno.
And here's yet another lipstick I'm going gaga for. It's Kevin Aucoin Yanilena, a bright reddish coral, and I need it, stat. Looks so good against Olivia's skin and hair, with just a bit of taupey-rosy shadow on the lids. She's also wearing Ardell individual lashes in short and medium, but they totally work and aren't overdone. Not sure why the foundation texture is so cakey in places, because she has great skin.
Aw, JLo looks (mostly) great here. Finally, we get an improvement on the cray-cray contouring and bizarre circular eyeshadow application! Well, the contouring is still here, but not as heavy, and the lip gloss/liner is still a problem. But the hair makes up for it. My goodness, the hair is nice. She is rocking the heck out this half-up Bardot 'do, which is so flattering in her signature bronde colour. Keep this up, Jen!
Good for 16-year-old G. (or Genevieve), whose beauty look here is totally age-appropriate for a teenager. There's no heavy makeup nor false lashes, just soft brown shadow to define the eyes, stained lips and loose, swingy hair.
Laura finally took a cue from her sister Vanessa and ditched the big brassy hair, faux tans and heavy makeup. Showing off her pretty face, big eyes and pale skin works so much better. I love the pony (though not sure about that lighter streak in the tail) and I love the lips and blush. And hey, forest green is kind of a fun experiment for the liner.
Here's another cat eye on this red carpet, except I'm so distracted by that one eyelash. Don't you hate when that happens?! Otherwise, Paris (who is 16) looks very easy breezy pretty. Love the matte pink lips.
Now this is really smart. Rumer's hairstyle, with all the volume at the top and not the sides, works amazingly well to draw the attention up—away from her jawline. I'm so impressed. I also like her brows and eye makeup. See the edge of her shadow, how there's a super-subtle feline flick almost to her brows? Very cool. I think she just found her Life Look.
Another day, another shot of Olivia in the same centre-parted hairstyle. A quick Google Images search indicates it wasn't always this way, so it would nice to see more experimentation again. As per usual, she's showing off her fabulous brows and full lips. I think the lashes cheapen this, though.
It's so great when you see a fresh-faced cutie like Maia on a red carpet, with a genuine beaming smile. Like Rumer Willis, she's gone for a pompadour ponytail, except she paired it with a no-makeup look instead. It's just her brows and the lashes that define her face. Looks amazing; I'd just add a little somethin'-somethin' to bring life to the lips.
Chelsea, too, went for a low-key makeup look, except for the false lashes and touch of champagne shimmer on the lids. I think it's fine, and her tousled wavy cut is quite adorable.
No sign yet of Katherine emerging from her hair rut. It gets a big nope from me on those sad limp curls at the ends, and the overall brassy colour. Even if she just cut it into a lob, it would improve 1,000 percent. I'd also love to see her ease up a bit on the lashes... they seem too long at the inner corners.
I'm getting try-hard vibes from 18-year-old Becky. There needs to be more freshness and modernity... not spiky false lashes, lip liner and too-light, orangey highlights.
Okay, I see some potential here. Kelli is still looking a bit too costumey, but we can work with this. Just needs to chop those extensions and take off the false lashes... I wouldn't mind a lighter hand with the purple shadow, either.
Wow, Alli has great lips. Lips that were born to wear matte red lipstick, that's for sure. But something about this is reminding me of Miranda Lambert—I think it's the problem when pale skin (and light eyes) gets too much spray tan and contour.
Not bad, but Beatrice—please re-think these highlights. They're too light, too ashy/frosty with her brown hair, and not doing her any favours. But the makeup is fine, and I like the lash definition especially.
The false lashes strike again... gah! See how they instantly cheapen Mollee's look? And you can't really take your eyes off them, they're so heavy. She has gorgeous skin and pretty features, just needs more current styling.
