The Hollywood Film Awards took place last week, marking the official launch of awards season! (Who knew?)
Consider this a baby red carpet to whet your appetite before the real action begins, on January 6th with People's Choice.
Here are the night's hair and makeup looks:
Best Dakota look in a while! I like everything else about this, from the bob 'n' bangs to the tightlined eyes to the flushed lips and cheeks. Notice how her eyeliner tapers off just so; true sign of expertise there. (Just found out Kate Lee did this... need I say more?) Her skin finish and the tousled hair texture keep things feeling really fresh. I'm even into her bronde hair colour, which I wasn't sure about before.
Amber's dewy-glowy skin has got to be her best feature. That and the way she can carry an eyeshadow. It's all happening here, and I'm appreciating it far more without her hair getting in the way. I could definitely stand to see less blush/contour, but the shimmery neutral lids and soft rose lip are sooo beautiful.
Alicia is back to this purplish-brown eyeshadow again. (Here's the way she wore it during TIFF, which I did not love.) However, I think I can almost get behind it here, as she didn't pair it with bad false lashes, and her hair is back, so it looks more modern. Once again, there's that softly stained lip texture.
Alicia is wearing: 1. Primer | 2. Foundation in 6 Medium and 8 Medium | 3. Concealer in 2 Fair and 3 Medium | 4. Powder in 1 Fair and 2 Medium | 5. Contour and highlighter | 6. Brow pencil in Cara D | 7. Eyeshadow in The Dolce Vita (Prime shade) | 8. Eyeshadow in The Vintage Vamp (Prime shade) | 9. Eyeliner in Barbarella Brown | 10. Mascara in Glossy Black | 11. Lip balm | 12. Lipstick in Walk of Shame
Saoirse (no idea how to pronounce that) had by far the most creative look on this red carpet. The gold and brownish-gold eyeshadow are so great! I love that she didn't cheapen it with strip lashes. Instead, she owned the colour statement against bare-ish skin and full, untweezed brows. It's so runway. With the side-swept hair, she suddenly reminds me very much of Natalie Dormer. They look similar, huh?
Reese sure has been busy with red carpets lately! There's nothing groundbreaking about this latest appearance, but she still looks great, as always. Straight hair is my preference on her, and you can see how simply parting it down the middle and tucking it behind both ears dresses up her style. The false lashes aren't too bad, and her makeup is nice and low-key. Her brows look good also!
It's not a "sexy" look, but I still love the confidence that Jordana's slicked-down updo conveys. It also shows off her flawless skin. She did her makeup just right, with the focus on black cat eyes and full brows. The peach blush, gloss and eyeshadow all harmonize together, but are super-subtle.
I like this look much better on Carey than the dark red lipstick and teased updo she recently wore. Paler lips are her friend, and her mid-length wavy chestnut hair could not be glossier. But I don't know why she keeps wearing the false lashes, which don't suit her. All things considered, this is not bad at all.

Another week, another photo of Jenna wearing gobs of makeup. It's not that she doesn't look gorgeous, because I still think that she does. I just wish we could see her a little fresher, a little more effortless. I like the concept here, but the eyes, cheeks, lips and brows are all so intense and so "done". Know what I mean?
I really respect Michelle for not letting people glam her too much on the red carpet. She always sticks to her brand, which is generally pretty bare-faced and low-key—hence she looks comfortable and not costumey. Here, the only thing I'd do is make her bang shape more solid.
Danica is so cute, but her hairstyles definitely lean bridal. The half-up beehive thing needs to go. I do like her skin, and the red lip gloss is pretty. She could lose the bad lashes and perfect her brow shape a bit more—just a few little tweaks are all that's needed.
Thora has such a unique look, I would love to help a girl out! To me, this appears as if she got ready on her own, without the help of any stylists. Hence, the foundation does not match, she needs powder, and her eye makeup is way too harsh and not properly blended. I'm also not sure why her brows are red? I think if they were dyed darker, and if she lightened up her makeup and got some nice blunt bangs, it would be a complete transformation for the better.
