If you follow me on social media, then you know I spend half my life opening up beauty mail.
Even though it's part of the job, I fully admit it: a big beauty unboxing session is definitely my idea of a good time.
But you know what's even more fun? When the contents happen to be NATURAL beauty products—the most exciting category in beauty for me, and what I always want to use personally.
If you feel the same way, you're going to want to check out the latest beauty box from The Detox Market, my most loved green beauty shop.
Available from both the Canadian and US sites (and in stores), it's called the "Detox Your Beauty" Box, and it's a limited-edition collection of their most popular and best-selling natural beauty products.
You get eight full-sized products in the box, plus a bunch of samples, so there's plenty to "unbox" here. Plus, the value is fantastic—almost double what it's priced at (more on that in a second!).
Whether you're already on a natural routine or just getting into green beauty, I think this is a great way to discover some brands and products you may not have tried before. I know I did!
Here's a quick look at what's inside:
First thing you see when you open it up is that sticker. "You are so loved." Is this not the best company motto? I get the warm and fuzzies every time.
Okay, now here's what you'll see inside:
Told you there was a lot!
One Love Organics The Cleansing Sponge
One Love Organics' Cleansing Sponge (value: C$13/US$10) is a cute heart-shaped sponge that works great as a gentle exfoliant. It's a nice option for those who don't want to go the Clarisonic route, and it won't irritate even sensitive skin. You simply dampen it until it softens, and then use it to massage on your cleanser. It will give your skin a deeper clean, and lasts up to three months.
Ingredients: Konjac-Mannan Plant Fiber (Glucomannan)
MV Organic Skincare Signature Mineral Mask Set
Clay mask fans, you will LOVE the MV Organic Skincare Signature Mineral Mask Set (value: C$89/US$76). You get a bag filled with finely-milled, mineral-rich French white clay, which can be applied as a mask or spot treatment. It comes with a brush and a silver bowl in which to mix it (with water); you're meant to create a creamy consistency, and only leave it on for about 10 minutes, before it hardens. I've used other clays before, but nothing this high-quality. Seriously impressed!
Ingredients: Superfine Sundried White French Clay. Typical Mineral Composition: Silica, Aluminium, traces of Iron Oxide, Sodium, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium.
Odacité Invigorating Jasmine Mimosa Body Scrub
The Odacité Invigorating Jasmine Mimosa Body Scrub (value: C$62/US$49) is probably the nicest body scrub I've ever used. Unlike most scrubs, it's not oily and doesn't leave a slippery mess in your tub; it's also a very effective exfoliant, thanks to the ground-up walnut shells (instead of quick-dissolving sugar or salt). The ingredients list is perfect, the scent is fantastic, and a little goes a long way.
Ingredients: Water/aqua/eau, Juglans regia (walnut) shell powder, Decyl glucoside, Lauryl glucoside, Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice*, Sodium cocoamphoacetate, Glycerin, Oryza sativa (rice) seed extract*, Spirulina platensis (algae) extract*, Lactobacillus/Arundinaria gigantea (bamboo) ferment filtrate, Chitosan succinamide, Cymbopogon flexuosus (lemongrass) leaf oil, Pelargonium graveolens (geranium) flower/leaf oil*, Acacia decurrens (mimosa) flower extract, Jasminum sambac (jasmine) flower oil, Cananga odorata (ylang-ylang) flower oil, Litsea cubeba (litsea cubeba) fruit oil, Rosa damascena (rose) flower oil.
Pai Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser
Pai's Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser (value: C$56/US$50) meets my most important cleanser criteria—it's sulfate-free. It's a creamy formula, and comes with a muslin cloth that they recommend using (dampened) to take it off. This is important, because you might otherwise find this cleanser a little too gentle and hydrating, if you just try to rinse with water. That said, the muslin cloth could be rough on sensitive skin. My solution is to skip the cloth, rinse with water, and then follow up with a micellar water on a cotton pad. It's a gentler way to get off all traces of cleanser (and any remaining dirt/oil/makeup). Because there are a number of seed oils in the ingredients list, you just want to ensure this is thoroughly removed from your skin.
Ingredients: Aqua (Purified Water), Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil* (Camellia Oil), Ricinus Communis Seed Oil* (Castor Oil), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil* (Sweet Almond Oil), Cetearyl Alcohol (Coconut-derived Emulsifier), Glycerin* (Vegetable Glycerine), Butyrospermum Parkii Butter* (Shea Butter), Cetearyl Glucoside (Corn-derived Emulsifier), Sodium Anisate (Non-Irritating Preservative Derived From Basil), Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Rosa Damascena Oil* (Damask Rose Otto Oil), Pelargonium Graveolens Oil* (Geranium Oil), Sodium Levulinate (Non-Irritating Preservative Derived From Corn), Lavandula Officinalis Flower Oil* (Lavender Oil), Lactic Acid (pH Stabiliser Derived From Sugar Beet), Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil* (May Chang Oil), Glyceryl Stearate Citrate (From Sustainable Palm Oil), Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate (From Coconut Oil). *Organically produced (80% of product).
Pure Provence Lavender Soap
The Pure Provence Lavender Soap (value: US$6.90) is a completely different soap experience than the usual cheap Body Shop stuff. It's made with only the purest vegetable ingredients, using the traditional French method, and is non-stripping. Unlike those bars that dissolve into nothing after a week in your shower, this is so solid that it will last a long time.
Ingredients: Sodium Palmate*, Sodium Cocoate*, Aqua (Water), Glycerin*, Lavandula Hybrida (Lavender) Oil, Sodium Citrate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter Extract*, Sodium Hydroxide. *Organic Ingredient
Pursoma Minerals De Mer Body Soak
The Pursoma Minerals De Mer Body Soak (value: US$14) will make you sleep like a baby. I love my salt baths, and this one encourages sweating out "toxins" while the seaweed hydrates your skin. You're meant to spend 30 minutes in the bath, and then avoid rinsing as long as possible. I only wish the bag was bigger... you could probably get two baths out of it, instead of just one.
Ingredients: Hand-harvested French grey sea salt (sodium chloride), Laminaria digitata (wild-harvested seaweed), Spirulina platensis (sustainably-farmed spirulina)
Affect Health Daily Balance Loose Leaf Wellness Tea
Affect Health Daily Balance Loose Leaf Wellness Tea (value: C$18.95/US$19) is a tea blend that gives you energy without the jitters. I'm so caffeinated on the regular, it's hard to tell—but it does taste great, with none of the bitterness of most green teas (and not fruity nor sweet). This, too, will last a while, as there's enough for 45 servings.
Ingredients: Guayusa*, Green Rooibos*, Jasmine Green Tea*, Urtica Dioica (Nettle)*, Schisandra Chinensis Berry (Schisandra Berry)*, Hibiscus Flower*, Rosehips*, Strawberries*, Apple*, Plant-derived Natural Flavours. *Organic Ingredient
Osmia Organics Sunset Body Oil
The last full-sized product in the box is Osmia Organics' Sunset Body Oil (value: C$32.50/US$25). I'm not a body oil person, but I like that the base ingredients (coconut and jojoba oils) are safe oils. The others, I'm not so crazy about, but hopefully they're in small amounts. It has a vanilla and jasmine scent that is so lovely.
Ingredients: caprylic/capric triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil), simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil*, aleurites molaccana (kukui) oil, prunus amygdalus (sweet almond) oil*, rosa rubiginosa (rosehips) seed oil*, cannabis sativa (hemp) seed oil*, persea gratissima (avocado) oil*, borago officinalis (borage) seed oil*, oenothera biennis (evening primrose) oil*, hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn berry) CO2 extract*, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) CO2 extract*, and a proprietary blend of organic and wild-harvested essential oils and CO2 extracts *Certified Organic
On top of that, you ALSO get a bag filled with samples. Mine included Juicy Bamboo Cleansing Cloths (a pack of three), CV Skinlabs Restorative Skin Balm, Dr. Alkaitis Organic Soothing Gel, Strange Invisible Perfumes Body Wash and Odacité A Spring in Tokyo Purifying Serum.
So you get all that for C$169 or US$129—but the value is more than C$300/US$230! Not too shabby at all.
Have you tried any of these natural beauty products?
What did you think?
