Critics' Choice Awards beauty 2018

Just when we finished perusing all the Golden Globes beauty looks, there's already another batch to delve into—from the Critics' Choice Awards, held on Thursday night.

Two red carpet events in one week; how lucky are we?!

This time around, celebs donned gowns of all colours (not just black), with a slightly more casual feel to the glam.

Here are the must-see hair and makeup close-ups:

Olivia Munn

What I like: Olivia's long, casual waves and natural makeup. After the matte trend, I'm ready for glossy lips like these, with a slight tint. The lashes lift her eyes without looking heavy. What I'd change: I think she's back to injecting her upper lip again!

Kate Bosworth

What I like: Kate's warm, red-toned lips, eyeshadow and blush. This isn't the colour palette you'd expect on a blue-eyed blonde, but it works because of the sheer application, ballerina updo, full brows and natural lashes. Very "editorial"! What I'd change: Nothing.

Kate is wearing: SerumMoisturizer • Foundation in Bisque MediumConcealer in RendezvousConcealer in AlivePowder in Ivory BisqueSetting sprayIlluminator in SpotlightBronzer in TantricBlush in Lines & Last NightEyeshadow in Scandalust • Eyeliner in SunsetMascara in Noir • Brow pencil in TaupeBrow mascara in Invisible • Lip balm • Lip liner in Oh Cocoa • Lipstick in Rei of Light

Gal Gadot

What I like: Gal's rose lipstick and smudgy waterlines with clean, off-the-face hair. Her dress was so sparkly and low-cut, it wouldn't have looked as fresh and confident if she'd worn stronger makeup with it. What I'd change: Nothing.

Gal is wearing: Lipstick in Teak Rose

Jessica Biel

What I like: Jessica's smooth, vintage waves—they're glorious! Her colour is so pretty, too. I also like the matching pinky-red stains on her lips and cheeks. What I'd change: Her skin looks quite powdery.

Jessica is wearing: Blush in Rosso Pompeiano • Lip stain in Rosso Pompeiano

Angelina Jolie

What I like: Angelina's strawberry-red lipstick. We rarely see her in a bright colour, and it's so pretty! She paired it with her go-to liner and lashes for a feline effect. Somehow, the half-up hair doesn't look boring on her. What I'd change: Her skin looks kinda dry (and ashy, although I don't think that's the makeup).

Yara Shahidi

What I like: Yara's glowy skin (always!), with blended-out liner flicks and gold shadow. Notice how she's also wearing a brown shade all the way around in her waterlines—that gives her eyes enough definition so that everything else can be clean and bare. What I'd change: Nothing. (Only she could make a unibrow look this good!)

Yara is wearing: Blush in So Close • Eyeshadow in Terre Brûlée • Eyeshadow in Poudre d'Or • Eyeshadow in Noir Satin • Eyeliner in Hyperblack • Lipstick in Beige Doré • Lip gloss in Burnt Sugar

Saoirse Ronan

What I like: Saoirse's black lipstick (and I never say that!). I think she pulls this off because it's balanced by her lovely darker brows, and because she's already got an edge to her style with the blonde hair. I like that she didn't push it, though, keeping her lashes bare and the eyeshadow soft and diffused. What I'd change: Nothing.

Saoirse is wearing: Concealer in Beige Médium (as foundation) • Blush in Jersey (also as eyeshadow) • Brow mascara in Transparent (on brows and lashes) • Brow pencil in Brun Clair • Lip liner in Beige Innocent • Eyeliner in Ambre (all over lips) • Lipstick in Rouge Noir mixed with Cream contour in Beige Médium

Margot Robbie

What I like: Margot's dramatic black cat eyes with the haphazard bun and long velvet ribbon in her hair. (Here it is from the side.) I'd much rather see a creative 'do like this than the "Hollywood" waves so many stars wear! What I'd change: I'm not sure if it's just makeup, but her lower lip looks distractingly inflated here (and I'm not crazy about the lipstick shade on her). Overall, I find the lips, false lashes and darkened brows come across a bit aggressive.

Margot is wearing: Eyeliner in Hyperblack • Lipstick in Adrienne

Emilia Clarke

What I like: Emilia's mini beehive updo and bangs. It's very cute—and modern, thanks to the roughed-up texture. What I'd change: She wore it well at the Globes, but I'm not enjoying the blonde here. Without the bright pink makeup to distract us, you can see how much it's washing her out.

Emilia is wearing: PrimerFoundationLip balm • Lip crayon in Ruthless • Lip crayon in Vibe • Lip crayon in Respect

Alison Brie

What I like: Alison's soft lashes and coppery eyeshadow. She has such amazing eyes, doesn't she?! There's black along the upper lash lines and waterlines for extra pop. What I'd change: I don't love such solid brows, and would rather see fine strokes with a pencil (and the hairs coated in brow mascara). I think her hair is half-up, but I don't like it that much from the front, especially that one piece of hair! She suits long hair better than this shag cut.

Alison is wearing: Face oil • Eyeshadow in Baalbek • Eyeliner in Barbarella Brown • Brow Pencil in Super Model (as eyeliner) • Lip crayon in Hyde Park • Lip gloss in Blondie

Kiernan Shipka

What I like: Kiernan's fresh-faced makeup and simple low ponytail. She's 18 now, but continues to possess the most amazing baby skin. I'm also totally envious of her brows. What I'd change: Nothing.

Kiernan is wearing: Mattifying serumIlluminating serum • Foundation in Ivory • Concealer in Ivory • Luminizer in Holo Pink • Blush in Petal • Eyeshadow in Copper Power • Eyeshadow in Platine Fusion • Mascara in Pro Black • Tinted lip balm in Holo Purple

Reese Witherspoon

What I like: Reese's casual, textured hair. I also like the bright pink lipstick (applied more like a stain) and matching blush. There's a lot happening on the eyes, but I think it's basically working. What I'd change: I'm just not loving the highlighter at her inner corners; it seems powdery instead of glowy.

Reese is wearing: SerumMoisturizer • Foundation in BeigeConcealerBronzerBlush in PinkBlush in SunblushPowder in Translucent • Eyeshadow in Bronzed to Be • Eyeshadow in Smoky Nights • Eyeshadow in Something Blue • Mascara in Intense Black • Brow pencil in Honey BlondeBrow mascara in BlondeLip balmLipstick in Pretty PinkLipstick in Red Door Red • Body oil

Jessica Chastain

What I like: Jessica's voluminous waves, parted down the centre. They're kind of "glam Boho," to go with her dress. I also like her coral lipstick. What I'd change: Her skin looks dry and powdery.

Diane Kruger

What I like: Diane's wavy, almost crimped-looking bob. As always, I appreciate her approach to makeup (which she does herself). No false lashes or harsh lines here, just a subtly shaded, neutral eye. What I'd change: I miss her longer hair (like this), and I think she could use a pop of colour (like this).

Jaimie Alexander

What I like: Jaimie's pompadour updo. I don't usually like all that volume up top, but she has the perfect (square) face shape for it. The skinny black kitten eyes keep the edgy vibe going. What I'd change: I would've skipped the false lashes, and made the brows more feathery (if possible).

Samara Weaving

What I like: Samara's straight hair, strong brows and all-around fresh look. (It helps that she has the most genuine smile of the bunch!) Notice how full her brows are... I really think it looks younger now to leave your brows alone! What I'd change: Her lips are chapped, but it happens to us all.

Samara is wearing: Exfoliator • Moisturizer • Foundation in B20 • Blush in Fresh MelonPowder • Eyeshadow • Lipstick in Nude Exposure

Elisabeth Moss

What I like: Elisabeth's sheer, candy-pink lipstick and soft lashes (they're similar to Olivia Munn's). Her brows look good—I don't think they always have to be filled in. What I'd change: I really think she'd look great as a light brunette. It always seems like her hair is either too dark, too red or (as we're seeing here) too blonde.

Elisabeth is wearing: Falling for You palette

Natalia Dyer

What I like: Natalia's lob hair in a deep side part, gelled at the roots and with a bit of interesting bend. She has excellent brows, and I love the pink eyeshadow trend on her. What I'd change: I'm not sure if it's for her job, but her blonde is a tad brassy (at least if you look at it here).

Allison Williams

What I like: Allison's lashes look super-delicate and pretty. What I'd change: Is the problem that she keeps choosing bad dresses—and then matching her makeup to them? At the Globes, it was oranges; here, it's browns. Besides the colour scheme, I don't like the overdrawn brows, the headband or the powdery skin. (Although, to be clear, she does have very good skin.)

Allison is wearing: MoisturizerFoundation • Bronzer • Blush in Fleur de Lotus • Highlighter • Eyeshadow in Visone (up to crease) • Eyeshadow in Codes Elegants (all over lid) • Mascara in Noir • Brow pencil • Lip liner in Beige Innocent • Lip gloss in Icing

Kaley Cuoco

What I like: Kaley's shimmering pink shadow, with black liner and a heavy fringe of lashes. It really emphasizes the unique rounded shape and green colour. What I'd change: Her blonde is too light and yellow for her skin tone, and her brow tails could use some filling in. I still maintain that short hair was the best on her!

Sarah Hyland

What I like: Sarah's updo. We usually see her in a trendy shattered bob and Ombré, so it's nice to go more classic for once. What I'd change: Obviously, this is way too much makeup! There's so much foundation, it's actually cracking in her laugh lines. If we removed half her base, and the overdrawn lips and brows, the eyes would be semi-okay.

Sarah is wearing: PrimerBlush in Flesh & Fantasy • Bronzer in Tantric • Highlighter in Dew You?Eyeshadow palette in Glambition (She Was on lid and brow bone; Infamous above crease; Seeking in crease; Known For at inner corners) • Eyeliner in Blacquer • Lip crayon in How Rouge!

Haley Bennett

What I like: Haley's skin and blush. Unlike most of the people here, she doesn't look dry, and it's like she's flushing from within. Her brows are perfect. What I'd change: Besides the worn-off lipstick, it's a hard no for me on the hair. I checked and apparently these are her real bangs. I thought it might be one of those faux jobs using her own hair, which would explain the weirdness!

Heidi Klum

What I like: I'm struggling here... I guess Heidi's skin? What I'd change: Uh, everything. She's a beautiful woman who is stuck in a style rut of goopy light lip gloss, white eyeliner, bottom false lashes and droopy, piecey Ombré waves. I'd love to see her chop her hair off, but even something closer to this would be an improvement.

Emma Roberts

What I like: Emma's soft brick-toned lipstick and spidery lashes. What I'd change: Oh man, these bangs! They're bad, really bad, but fortunately (hopefully!) just a wig. This is what everyone is afraid of when deciding whether to get bangs!
