Grammys beauty 2018

So far this awards season, we've seen the who's who of Hollywood dressed to the nines at the Globes, Critics' Choice and the SAGs

Now, it's time for a palette cleanse!

At Sunday night's Grammys, both the guest list and the styling were totally different. The biggest stars in music brought more casual, experimental beauty looks... and showed off some seriously incredible SKIN!

Take a look at the night's best hair and makeup (or lack thereof):

Alicia Keys

What I like: Alicia's beautiful bare skin! I'm so happy to see her sticking to her #nomakeup pledge, two years on. (Although anyone would want to wear less makeup if they had a complexion like this underneath!) With her flushed cheeks, it looks like she just got the best facial, or stepped out of a yoga class. I love how she didn't cover up the tiny imperfections, either—it just goes to show, we don't always need to do that! She's also wearing my favourite fun hairstyle: pom-pom braids! What I'd change: Nothing.

Lana Del Rey

What I like: Lana's new modern beauty look. Remember she used to wear her hair really long, with the retro bouffant action at the top? (This and this will refresh your memory.) Chopping it off into this swingy, smooth lob was a great, and much-needed, update! Her skin looks amazing, and I love how she plays up her lower lashes. What I'd change: Her brows could be more feathery (and have two different tones going on). Her winged eyeliner is travelling up to her temples, but I'm okay with it, considering the event.

Lana is wearing: Foundation • Concealer • Eyeshadow in Ginger • Eyeliner in Blacktrack • Mascara • Lip liner in Stone and Edge to Edge

Chrissy Teigen

What I like: Chrissy's new bob. I love her waves—I want to see more of this, instead of the dry textures and straight ends that were the trend for so long! I also love her warm honey tones with dark roots. Her makeup isn't so muddy this time, thanks to the rose lipstick and blush. What I'd change: Do bottom false lashes ever look good? I don't think so. Plus, her brows and lips don't need to be so overdrawn.

Chrissy is wearing: MoisturizerEye serumFoundation in Honey and Beige • Concealer in Medium Deep • Bronzer in Hey, Honey • Highlighter in Rose Gold and Beach Nectar • Eyeshadow in Rustique (all over lids) • Eyeshadow in Immortal (along lash lines) • Eyeliner in Bronze Patina • Lipstick in Mystic • Volumizing sprayCurl-enhancing spray • Texturizing spray

Katie Holmes

What I like: Katie's short hair, worn in Marcel waves... and if you look closely, she's rocking her natural greys! (That never happens with famous actresses!) Her skin looks super-glowy, and I think the lashes are pretty good. What I'd change: I like all the pink shades, but I don't think that greenish-gold is quite working. We can also see a ring of lip liner.

Hailee Steinfeld

What I like: Hailee's mermaid eyes. Like I always say, she can wear a bold, bright eyeshadow like nobody else! Notice how it's just the one shade of teal, and it's applied all the way around, with excellent diffusing at the edges. Everything else is soft, sun-kissed and beachy, including her hair. What I'd change: Nothing, but does anyone else miss when Hailee's looks were less sexy, more sweet?

Rita Ora

What I like: Rita's flawless skin and glossy nude lids. She's wearing less eye makeup than ever these days, and I feel like she looks even prettier! We've seen many iterations of this old Hollywood styling on her before, but she does wear it well. She also somehow manages to pull off three inches of dark roots! What I'd change: Even though the roots edge it up, it does feel slightly dated.

Rita is wearing: Primer • Foundation in 303 True Nude • Highlighter in Soho Glow • Colour corrector • Concealer in 335 Light/Medium • Contour in Medium • Blush, contour and highlighter in Golden SandsPowder in Translucent • Eyeshadow in London Nudes CallingEyeshadow in Witness WhiteEyeliner in BlackMascara • Brow pomade in Medium • Lipstick in Plum This Show

Miley Cyrus

What I like: Miley looks... normal! You might even call this "boring," compared to the last time she walked a major red carpet, at the 2015 VMAs. But I, for one, am fine with boring. This is just really delicate and pretty, with pink lips, defined upper lashes and what looks like a sheer lilac eyeshadow. What I'd change: Her hair seems a little flat from the front (it's in waves at the back).

Anna Kendrick

What I like: Anna's plum and silver smoky eyes. They match her colouring. And see how she gets that winged effect, but with shadow instead of liner (so it's not as harsh)? We've all got to start trying this! I appreciate that she kept her lashes—and lips!—natural-looking. What I'd change: I find this hair colour too dark. If she went back to this shade, it would really soften her look.

Anna is wearing: Moisturizer • Primer • Foundation • Blush in Euphoric Fusion • Powder in Translucent • Powder in Ethereal Light • Eyeshadow in Cocoa Mirage • Eyeshadow in SilverEyelinerMascara in BlackFalse lashes • Brow pencil in Oak Brown • Brow mascara in Brown • Lip liner in Eden • Lipstick in Nude Kate

SZA

SZA, Grammy Awards, 2018

What I like: SZA's super-voluminous curls. I also like her glossy mauvey lips, peach blush and natural brows. Normally, I'm against highlighting the tip of your nose, but on her it kinda looks cute. What I'd change: What lets this down is the "baking" under her eyes. It's too light and matte! I also don't like her choice of false lashes, which look like they're lifting up at the inner corners.

SZA is wearing: SerumMoisturizer • Foundation and concealer • Powder • Blush in Beam • Blush in Mandarin • Highlighter in Topaz • Lip liner in HyèresLipstick in Abu Dhabi • Lip gloss

Kesha

What I like: Kesha's matching pink lip and cheek stain. It's so good with her freckles! She also has a fantastic set of brows, and I'm glad she kept them darker than her blonde. What I'd change: I'm not thrilled about seeing another pair of bottom false lashes (believe it or not, there's a THIRD and FOURTH I'll show you in a sec!). I really, really want to cut her hair to just below the collarbones.

Kesha is wearing: Foundation in 150 • Blush in Je Ne Sais Quoi • Blush in At Last • Illuminator in Polka Dots & Moonbeams • Eyeshadow • Brow pencil in Dark Brown

Bebe Rexha

What I like: Bebe's platinum blonde bob in a deep side part—it really suits her! (Okay, it isn't her real hair. We'll discuss that in a moment.) I also like the purple eyeshadow, to match her earrings, framed by dark liner and brows. What I'd change: So, the edges of this wig are a little obvious, since we can see her dark baby hairs. I don't like the false lashes, and her under-eye concealer seems dry/cakey.

Camila Cabello

What I like: Camila's fresh, healthy skin. She is so radiant! The makeup is really simple; just playing up the lashes/lash lines and adding sheer tawny tones to the lips and cheeks. What I'd change: She looks pretty, but she also looks like she's going to the prom. It's something about the hair, earrings and dress.

Camila is wearing: Moisturizer • Foundation • Highlighter in Sunkissed (as bronzer) • Highlighter in Moonlight • Highlighter in Sunlight (as eyeshadow) • Lip liner in Au Naturale • Lipstick in Glossy Fawn

Heidi Klum

What I like: Heidi's long, Boho waves, which look like undone braids. I always enjoy the juxtaposition of a casual, semi-messy hairstyle with a fancy dress. (Not that this is a nice dress, though.) The neutral-toned makeup was generally the right idea. What I'd change: Those are bottom false lashes, right? At least there's no white eyeliner this time! Unfortunately, the lipstick is too light and we can see the darker lip liner. The contour also isn't blended great.

Heidi is wearing: Lipstick in Nude Kate

Janelle Monáe

What I like: Janelle's baby pink lip gloss. I also like how luminous her skin looks! It's been highlighted and sculpted in all the right places. What I'd change: The blonde hair is just not doing it for me. Especially when you know she is capable of hair looks like this (one of my all-time faves!). The eye makeup is really heavy. There's our fourth pair of bottom falsies, and all that black liner is overpowering the teal liner.

Janelle is wearing: Face mask • Moisturizer • Eye cream • Eyeshadow in Lingerie Lover, Haute Couture and LBD (upper lids) • Eyeshadow in Twilight Tryst (lower lash lines) • Eyeliner in Ring My Bell • False lashes

Lady Gaga

What I like: Lady Gaga's... lipstick shade? I guess? And glitter is always fun! Plus, she has always had beautiful skin. What I'd change: SOMEBODY is trying to distract us from the new "work" they had done by wearing ALL the makeup. I'll be needing to update this! I can't decide if the makeup truly is too heavy (for her... she can usually handle a lot) or if it's the exaggerated features underneath!

Lady Gaga is wearing: Foundation in Y270 (available February 2018) • Blush in 504 Kink & KissesHighlighter in 50 Dew You? • Eyeshadow in Glambition (shimmery peach shade) • Eyeshadow in Edgitorial (shimmery black shade) • Loose glitter • Eyeliner in Blacquer 42 • Liquid liner in Blacquer • Mascara in Noir • Lip liner in Prim(rose) 304Lipstick in Cream & Sugar • Mousse • Gel
